In order to appreciate art, we must put our hearts, feelings and emotion into it to be able to understand the true meaning of it. Of course, some artworks are made that only its artist has the understanding of its meaning. It is because art can be a medium of expression. There are different forms of art. Some can be through paintings, some are sculptures and some can be personalized things made from different set of materials. But not all artworks are done to express one’s feelings. Some tend to express their faith through spiritual and metaphysical artworks.

Artwork that depicts sacred scenery from the bible is called religion. It involves works of art which has themes of religious personas or religious beings. It can be in the form of what we believe God, or angelic beings like angels and saints. Mythology, on the other hand, is artworks that show stories of Gods and Goddesses. Its themes involve the famous Zeus, Hercules, Athena and other known Greek and Roman Supremes. Nymphs and heroes are usually originated from Romans or Greeks. Example of these is the works of Fra Angelico entitled “The Annunciation” and also the work of Johan Tobias Sergel entitling “Centaur enlacing a nymph. There are also artworks that pictures supernatural beings, heroes or ancestors. These are what we called Myths. Example of this kind of artwork is the “Pieta” by Michaelangelo which is an artwork made of marble. Meanwhile, subjects regarding inanimate objects are what we called still life. The common still life objects are flowers, furniture, books, clothing and utensils. This art sounds simple but it is not. Still life artwork does not only involve inanimate objects, it makes the inanimate objects look real, something you can imagine as part of the reality. Dreams and fantasy can also be a subject of an artwork. Yes it is. Examples of which is the masterpiece of Christopher T. Ray entitled the “Fan Dancer” and the “Anthropomorphic Cabinet” by Salvador Dali.

There are so many subjects that you can have to make as an artwork. You just have to feel what you want to express. Live art, love art, feel art.
